Signs of Burn-Out

In today’s fast-paced and overwhelmingly busy world, it’s easy to commit to too many responsibilities, overwork yourself and ultimately ignore your own needs. Often times this happens slowly without you even noticing how thin you are spread, until you become so overwhelmed you feel helpless and crash. Burn-out can occur from too much stress, being too busy, or just feeling overall overwhelmed. When it happens it can often lead to emotional exhaustion which can be very detrimental to your well being. If you think you may be at risk for Burn-out, continue reading to see the signs that you may be close to  becoming emotionally exhausted.

You have a short fuse. If you have noticed that lately you are more easily irritated or quicker to snap, this could be due to your current situation and pending burn-out. Little things will turn into big emotional responses, and you may be confused about why you are so irritated so easily.

Your mind is racing. You may have that feeling of never being able to turn your mind off or racing thoughts, even at night while you try to sleep. Even though you may be physically exhausted, you run through the days events, you think about all the things you need to do, and you cannot seem to relax.

Your emotions are all over.  You may be perfectly cheerful one second and the next minute you feel so angry you could cry. You may feel so overwhelmed that you break down in tears often or have fits of rage.

You feel hopeless often. You start feeling like there is no end in sight with a negative situation, or feel like there is no solution. Being overwhelmed and not knowing how to handle the stress can lead to feeling hopeless about your situation.

You have checked out. You may just feel unmotivated or truly feel like you don’t care about your work, your relationship or your goals. Even if you keep going through the motions you often feel like that is all you are doing, without truly being invested in it.

You often feel anxious. Stress and anxiety often go hand-in-hand so it’s no wonder that having a stressful area in your life can lead you to feel very anxious, especially when it isn’t something that you can control.

You are constantly exhausted. You may feel like no matter how much rest you get, you can’t quite seem to have energy. Small tasks seem like they require more energy than you can muster. You feel too tired to put effort into much of anything.
