Warning Signs of An Abusive Relationship

Relationships are complex and often complicated. No relationship is perfect, and all relationships will experience difficulties. But it is important to recognize the signs of abuse in a relationship and to reach out for help if you are in an abusive relationship. While physical abuse is more easily recognized, mental and emotional abuse can be hard to spot. Here is a few warning signs of an abusive relationship:

  • Your partner often says hurtful things to you.
  • Your partner embarasses you intentionally in public settings (often by talking down to you)
  • Your partner gets easily upset or angry at you.
  • Your partner blames you for all of their problems.
  • Your partner hits, breaks, or throws objects.
  • Your partner often criticized you or ¬†your looks.
  • Your partner spreads rumors and lies about you.
  • Your partner intimidates or threatens you.
  • Your partner isolates you from others.
  • Your partner calls you names or yells at you.
  • Your partner uses physical means to restrain you during arguments
  • Your partner uses jealousy to justify their poor behaviors.
  • Your partner forces or demands sexual activity.
